Arbeloa asks Madrid fans for backing; Mbappé fit vs. Levante

 Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa called on fans at the Bernabéu to support his under-fire team ahead of their LaLiga game against Levante on Saturday, while confirming that star forward Kylian Mbappé is set to be available for selection.

Arbeloa took charge of the team on Tuesday -- replacing Xabi Alonso -- and suffered his first defeat as coach just a day later as Madrid were eliminated from the Copa del Rey by second-tier Albacete.

Mbappé was absent for that match, while a knee sprain also limited his participation in Madrid's defeat in the Spanish Supercopa final loss to Barcelona last weekend which preceded Alonso's dismissal.

"I respect the opinion of the Bernabéu a lot," Arbeloa said in a news conference on Friday, when asked if he was worried about a hostile reception for the team after back-to-back defeats.

"I understand Madrid fans are hurt and upset with us. But I ask for their support for the players ... I ask the fans that despite the disappointment they feel, they're on our side."

Despite a difficult first half of the season under Alonso, Madrid are still just four points behind leaders Barcelona at the top of the LaLiga table.

Top scorer Mbappé has missed three of Madrid's four games so far in 2026, only featuring for a subdued 15 minutes in the Supercopa final, after being diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee.

"He's better, and he'll be in the squad," Arbeloa said on Friday.

The new coach clarified comments he made after the Albacete loss, when he said his team have "a big margin to improve physically," which was interpreted by some as a criticism of his predecessor -- and his personal friend -- Alonso.

The Spurs have lost their last two games, the last one a blowout in Oklahoma City where the Thunder took over the game in the third quarter and won 119-98. After spending most of the last couple on months in second place in the Western Conference, the Spurs have dropped to third place, half a game behind the Denver Nuggets who are on a 3 game winning streak despite missing the services of Nikola Jokic, with Jamal Murray playing like an All Star. The longest losing streak by the Spurs this year has been two games, and they need a win tonight to keep that going. It might be tough to do that against the Bucks, who are not having a great year, currently at 17-23, but who are always dangerous with Giannis Antetokounmpo capable of a big scoring night at any time. Giannis is dealing with an ankle injury, but he’s listed as probable in the injury report, so he should be fine tonight.

Trump threatens to use the Insurrection Act to end protests in Minneapolis

 MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened to invoke an 1807 law and deploy troops to quell persistent protests against the federal officers sent to Minneapolis to enforce his administration’s massive immigration crackdown.

The threat comes a day after a man was shot and wounded by an immigration officer who had been attacked with a shovel and broom handle. That shooting further heightened the fear and anger that has radiated across the city since an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent fatally shot Renee Good in the head.

“If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT, which many Presidents have done before me, and quickly put an end to the travesty that is taking place in that once great State,” Trump said in social media post.

Presidents have invoked the law more than two dozen times, most recently in 1992 by President George H.W. Bush to end unrest in Los Angeles. In that instance, local authorities had asked for the assistance.

Jamal Murray scores 33 and Nuggets beat Mavs 118-109 as Cooper Flagg exits with sprained ankle

 

Jamal Murray scored 33 points and the Denver Nuggets held on for a 118-109 victory over the Dallas Mavericks, who were without Cooper Flagg for the second half after the rookie No. 1 overall pick sprained his left ankle Wednesday night.

The Nuggets were comfortably in front when Flagg turned the ankle as he stumbled to the court when he was called for a foul while defending Peyton Watson with 6:01 remaining in the second quarter.

Flagg limped to the locker room, but returned and played the final 2:35 before the break. He didn't come out for the second half before the announcement that he was done for the night. The 19-year-old former Duke standout scored six points in 15 minutes.

Aaron Gordon had 22 points and Watson added 18 for Denver.

Naji Marshall scored 24 points and Brandon Williams had 20 for Dallas, which shot a season-worst 14.7% from 3-point range (5 of 34).

Dallas had trimmed a 23-point deficit to five early in the fourth quarter on a 3-pointer from rookie Ryan Nembhard when former Maverick Tim Hardaway answered with a 3 to start a 13-2 run that put Denver in front 101-85. Murray capped the run with a 3.

The Mavericks got back within six in the final 1:12 before Murray hit a jumper just above the free-throw line and Gordon hit two free throws.
