Former Pakistan fast bowler Ehsan Adil has been handed a dramatic second chance on the global stage, earning a spot in the USA squad for the ICC Twenty20 World Cup, where fate may see him lining up against the country of his birth.
The 32-year-old Adil was not part of the original squad, but cricket’s unpredictability opened a door on Tuesday when he was named as a replacement for the injured Jessy Singh.
From World Cup Regular to International Exile
Adil’s journey has been anything but straightforward. Between 2013 and 2015, he represented Pakistan in three Tests and six One-Day Internationals, including appearances at the 2015 ODI World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Yet, after being discarded at the international level, Adil quietly slipped out of Pakistan’s cricketing picture. Like many before him, he looked elsewhere to keep his career alive, eventually migrating to the United States, where he qualified to represent his adopted nation last year.
Now, years after fading from the spotlight, Adil finds himself back at a World Cup, this time wearing different colors.
No Baggage, Just Professionalism
Despite the emotional undercurrents, Adil insists there will be no conflict of loyalties if USA face Pakistan.
“We are professionals, so it won’t be a problem playing against players with whom we had played in Pakistan,” Adil told Telecom Asia Sport
