Federico Valverde hat-trick leads Real Madrid past Manchester City in Champions League: Live updates and reaction

Real Madrid hat-trick hero Federico Valverde spoke to Movistar+ on Spanish TV after the match and called it the best game of his career.

💬 “Yes, for sure. Above all in goals. I really enjoy scoring goals, it’s a long time since I’ve had a game like this. So I’m really happy, but above all for the result for the team. It’s an incredible feeling.

“You dream about nights like this. I thank my teammates who gave me the confidence to be in good spirits. Thanks to the coach, the fans, who are always supporting me, even though it has been a difficult season.

“The coach always asks me to join the attack. Today we had more players who hold the ball in midfield, so I could attack a lot more. And my teammates gave me incredible passes

His positional error led to the only goal of the FA Cup final last season as Manchester City lost 1-0 against Crystal Palace.

And though the 20-year-old is a fine prospect, he did not get close enough to Valverde for the first two goals, and to Vinicius Junior in the build-up to the penalty either.
