Over to you, City: Arsenal recover power and poise in classic Arteta win

LEEDS, England -- Whatever fate awaits Arsenal in this Premier League title race, they are determined to do it their way. Much of the fallout from last weekend's 3-2 defeat to Manchester United centered on suggestions the Gunners have to do something different from here to win their first league crown since 2004.

Mikel Arteta spoke of a clear-the-air meeting a day later in which they vowed to "live and play with enjoyment ... courage ... and conviction they are going to win it."

Dropping captain Martin Ødegaard against Leeds hinted at something different. But in the end, they thrashed Leeds United 4-0 on Saturday with a performance that was quintessentially Arteta's Arsenal.

One goal from a recycled corner, another direct from a corner, a Viktor Gyökeres close-range finish and substitute Gabriel Jesus' late strike secured a win that extends their lead at the top of the table back to seven points.

It wasn't necessarily "fun" -- the football was one again formulaic -- but it was Arsenal at their effective best. They strangled the life out of Leeds and their vociferous Elland Road crowd with a level of control they only momentarily threatened to relinquish as the home side tried to rouse themselves early in the second half.

5 early takeaways from DOJ’s big Epstein files drop

The Justice Department on Friday announced the long-awaited release of an enormous tranche of Jeffrey Epstein files, spanning more than 3 million pages, which it said fulfilled its obligations under transparency legislation passed last year by Congress.

The volume of documents related to the late convicted sex offender means sorting through everything is going to take some time.

But here are some early takeaways:

The key Trump mentions so far

President Donald Trump’s name shows up a lot in the latest batch of files, which includes material ranging from investigative documents to emails to news clips. A few of the mentions stand out so far.

First is an email chain from August 2025 in which an apparent FBI employee displays a list of apparently unsubstantiated tips involving Trump and Epstein – many of them quite salacious.

“Yellow highlighting is for the salacious piece,” one official writes to explain how the allegations were being sorted.

Trump has never been accused by law enforcement of Epstein-related wrongdoing, and he has denied engaging in any.

The allegations appear to be unverified, and the officials note that some are secondhand information. The document notes that in many instances, there was no contact made with the individuals who sent in the allegations, or no contact information was provided

Kamala Harris: Don Lemon arrest ‘an affront to our rights and freedoms’

Former Vice President and 2024 Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris is blasting President Trump’s administration over the arrest of journalist Don Lemon and several other independent media members in connection with a protest at a church in Minnesota earlier this month.

“Today, Donald Trump and his administration are once again trampling on our rights and our freedoms. Journalists Don Lemon and Georgia Fort were fulfilling their duty to the American people to report and inform, and they have been arrested for it,” Harris wrote in a statement posted on social media. “Donald Trump continues to consolidate power and show a flagrant disregard for the rule of law. This arrest is another affront to our rights and freedoms

Lemon was arrested Thursday in Los Angeles on charges in connection with the demonstration, which he and his producers filmed at a St. Paul church where anti-ICE protesters were disrupting a service because they believed the pastor there was a member of immigration enforcement.

A federal magistrate initially declined to take up charges against Lemon, who has argued he was not participating in the demonstration but rather covering the confrontation as a journalist.

A number of press freedom advocates and prominent Democrats have slammed the Department of Justice over the pundit’s arrest, arguing his detainment is the latest example of the Trump administration cracking down on unfavorable press coverage and commentary.

A former longtime anchor at , Lemon launched a YouTube and social media show after being fired by the network, and he has used that platform to criticize Trump and his allies.

Timberwolves hit 22 3-pointers, coast to 123-111 win over Thunder

MINNEAPOLIS -- — Anthony Edwards scored 26 points and the Minnesota Timberwolves matched a season high with 22 3-pointers in a 123-111 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night.

Jaden McDaniels scored 21 points including 5 of 5 from 3-point range for the Timberwolves. Naz Reid added 18 points off the bench for Minnesota and connected four times from behind the arc.

Minnesota's 22 3-pointers equaled the second-most surrendered by the Thunder this season. The Wolves shot 46.8% (22 of 47) from deep.

Minnesota has won three straight after snapping its season-long five-game losing streak. Oklahoma City has lost three of its last four games.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a game-high 30 points for Oklahoma City. Chet Holmgren added 15 points, while center Isaiah Hartenstein scored 11 points in his return to action after missing 16 games with a calf injury.

Despite getting leading rebounder Hartenstein back, the Thunder were outrebounded 46-36.

Minnesota was without veteran point guard Mike Conley. Bones Hyland saw extended playing time with Conley out, scoring nine points in 23 minutes.

Real Madrid, PSG drop into UCL playoffs on chaotic final day

Real Madrid were stunningly dumped into the qualifying playoffs of the Champions League by their former coach Jose Mourinho -- whose Benfica team advanced on a last-gasp goal by its goalkeeper -- on Wednesday and will be joined there by defending champion Paris Saint-Germain.

Madrid started play third in the 36-team standings and despite two goals by Kylian Mbappé lost 4-2 at Benfica and fell to ninth -- one place below advancing directly to the round of 16.

Astonishingly, Benfica advanced to the knockout phase in 24th place only on goal difference because Ukrainian goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin scored in the eighth minute of stoppage time with a dramatic header when Madrid were down to nine players. Red cards were shown minutes earlier for Raúl Asencio and Rodrygo.

"This victory is historic and important," said Mourinho, who then praised his goalkeeper. "We knew that he could do it. You have to put the ball there, but it's an amazing goal for the guy."

Golden State buries Utah 140-124 behind a flurry of 3-pointers

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) Stephen Curry scored 27 points, Moses Moody had 26 and the Golden State Warriors beat the Utah Jazz 140-124 on Wednesday night.

Gui Santos had 16 points off the bench for the Warriors. Golden State made 23 3-pointers and never trailed over the final three quarters. Moody led the way with five 3s.

Brice Sensabaugh scored 22 points off the bench for Utah. Keyonte George had 19 points and seven assists. Ace Bailey also scored 19 points for the Jazz and Lauri Markkanen had 18.

Utah trimmed a 22-point deficit to single digits entering the fourth quarter. The Jazz drew to 108-100 on a pair of free throws from Isaiah Collier with 9:52 left. Curry made back-to-back baskets to restore a double-digit lead.

Golden State used a 20-2 run to go up 136-109 with 3:29 left.

Golden State made it rain from the perimeter early, going 15 of 31 from long distance before halftime. Eight different players made an outside basket for the Warriors in the first half. Buddy Hield and Moody accounted for three apiece before halftime.

Hield buried back-to-back 3s a minute into the second quarter to cap a 19-8 run that gave Golden State a 40-24 lead. The Warriors built a 16-point lead three other times in the second quarter - the final time when Quinten Post made a 3-pointer to make it 64-48.

Golden State expanded its lead to 22 points in the third quarter, going up 91-69 on a pair of free throws from Curry.

'I don't let bullies win,' says US congresswoman Omar after substance thrown at her

Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar was attacked at an event she was hosting on Tuesday, when an audience member used a syringe to spray liquid at her, Minneapolis police said.

Omar was uninjured and continued to speak. "I'm ok. I'm a survivor so this small agitator isn't going to intimidate me from doing my work. I don't let bullies win," she later wrote on X.

Authorities have not yet identified what the liquid was. According to a BBC journalist in the room, it had a sour smell similar to a chemical product.

Anthony James Kazmierczak, 55, has been charged with third-degree assault and is being held in custody, the local sheriff's office said.

Omar, a Democrat who became in 2019 the first Somali-American to serve in the US Congress, is a fierce critic of US President Donald Trump.

She has recently targeted the president's immigration crackdown in Minnesota, during which two US citizens have been shot dead.

On Tuesday, responding to the second fatal shooting, Trump said his administration was "going to de-escalate a little bit".

During her speaking event, Omar called for the abolition of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which is one of the main agencies tasked with carrying out the operation and has come under intense scrutiny for its tactics.

Trump has frequently clashed with Minnesota's Democratic officials, and has often singled

Doomsday Clock at 85 seconds to midnight amid threats from climate crisis and AI

Earth is closer than it has ever been to destruction as Russia, China, the US and other countries become “increasingly aggressive, adversarial, and nationalistic”, a science-oriented advocacy group said on Tuesday as it advanced its Doomsday Clock to 85 seconds until midnight.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientist members had an initial demonstration on Friday and then announced their results on Tuesday.

The scientists cited risks of nuclear war, the climate crisis, potential misuse of biotechnology and the increasing use of artificial intelligence without adequate controls as it made the annual announcement, which rates how close humanity is from ending.

Last year the clock advanced to 89 seconds to midnight.

Since then, “hard-won global understandings are collapsing, accelerating a winner-takes-all great power competition and undermining the international cooperation” needed to reduce existential risks, the group said.

They worry about the threat of escalating conflicts involving nuclear-armed countries, citing the Russia-Ukraine war, May’s conflict between India and Pakistan and whether Iran is capable of developing nuclear weapons after strikes last summer by the US and Israel.

International trust and cooperation is essential because, “if the world splinters into an us-versus-them, zero-sum approach, it increases the likelihood that we all lose,” said Daniel Holz, chair of the group’s science and security board.

The group also highlighted droughts, heatwaves and floods linked to global warming, as well as the failure of countries to adopt meaningful agreements to fight global warming – singling

Bovino Set to Leave Minnesota as Trump Shakes Up Crackdown Leadership

Gregory Bovino, the Border Patrol official in charge of President Trump’s on-the-ground immigration enforcement in Minneapolis, is expected to leave the city, according to two U.S. officials.

The decision to move him out of the city came two days after he made the unsubstantiated claim that a man who was shot and killed there by federal agents was planning to “massacre” law enforcement officers. Some of the federal agents in the city are also expected to begin leaving on Tuesday, Mayor Jacob Frey of Minneapolis said after a phone call on Monday with President Trump, without providing details.

Mr. Trump and his top aides have faced intense scrutiny over the death of the man, Alex Pretti, including from some of the president’s most ardent supporters. Earlier Monday, Mr. Trump said he was sending his border czar, Tom Homan, to Minnesota to oversee operations on the ground. Mr. Homan, the president added, would report directly to him.

Mr. Walz’s office described the phone call as “productive” and said it touched on topics Mr. Trump’s post did not mention: efforts to ensure independent investigations into the killings of Mr. Pretti and Renee Good, who was fatally shot by an agent on Jan. 7, and the possibility of reducing the number of federal agents deployed to the state.

But soon after Mr. Trump posted about the call, Karoline Leavittthe White House press secretary, continued to lay blame for the shooting of Mr. Pretti at the feet of Mr. Walz and other Democrats — even as she sought to distance Mr. Trump from the attacks on Mr. Pretti by some of his top allies, including Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff.

Greg Bovino Loses His Job

Gregory Bovino has been removed from his role as Border Patrol “commander at large” and will return to his former job in El Centro, California, where he is expected to retire soon, according to a DHS official and two people with knowledge of the change.

Bovino’s sudden demotion is the clearest sign yet that the Trump administration is reconsidering its most aggressive tactics after the killing Saturday of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents under Bovino’s command.

Earlier today, President Trump appeared to signal in a series of social-media posts a tactical shift in the administration’s mass-deportation campaign. Trump wrote that he spoke with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz—whom the White House has blamed for inciting violence—and the two men are now on “a similar wavelength.” Tom Homan, the former ICE chief whom Trump has designated “border czar,” will head to Minnesota to assume command of the federal mobilization there,

Rams vs. Seahawks score, live updates: NFC Championship pits Matthew Stafford vs. Sam Darnold for third time this season; winner faces Patriots in Super Bowl LX

Round 3 for the Los Angeles Rams and Seattle Seahawks’ 2025 series takes place Sunday, with a trip to Super Bowl LX on the line. These NFC West rivals split the regular-season series, with each team winning at home. Both franchises are riding high, having survived the toughest division in football to advance to the NFC championship game.

The Rams stumbled down the stretch of the regular season, losing two of their final three games; however, they are the last team to have beaten the Seahawks back on Nov. 16. It took overtime against Chicago last week for the Rams to come out victorious, 20-17. MVP candidate Matthew Stafford didn’t have a great game, completing less than 47% of his passes for 258 yards but did enough to have his team in position to win in the end despite some late-game heroics from 2024 No.

Seattle comes in riding an eight-game winning streak, which includes a 38-37 overtime victory over the Rams on Dec. 18. The Seahawks won’t have running back Zach Charbonnet, who suffered a torn ACL in last week’s playoff win, but have been rolling powered by their No. 1 scoring defense (17.2 points per game in the regular season), who have held opponents to 19 combined points in the last three matchups.

Out of a timeout, Sam Darnold connects with Cooper Kupp on a third-and-7. The ball came loose as Kupp hit the ground, but the officials ruled he was down by contact.

But was Kupp down before crossing the line to gain at the 35? The ruling is that he was.

LIVE UPDATES: Power outages increasing in North Georgia, Kemp provides update

ATLANTA - A dangerous winter storm is bringing significant icing across parts of North Georgia and the Atlanta metro. An Ice Storm Warning is in effect until 10 a.m. Monday. Forecasters expect total ice accumulations between a quarter of an inch and one inch, with wind gusts up to 30 mph. Officials with Georgia Emergency Management warn that the strength of this weather system could trigger widespread, multi-day power outages and make travel "impossible" across the northern half of the state.

Travel is strongly discouraged, as road conditions have deteriorated quickly and have become impassable in some areas. The biggest impacts may carry into the Monday morning commute, even after the storm begins to move out.

Gov. Kemp and other state officials will provide an update at 3 p.m. with the latest details. Check back here at that time to watch the press conference.

Sunday, Jan. 25 | Live Update

10:05 A.M. Due to severe winter weather, MARTA is operating on a limited schedule Sunday and Monday, running only lifeline bus routes to major medical facilities and reduced rail, streetcar and Mobility service. Trains are running every 20 minutes on select lines, while most bus routes are suspended, with service subject to further reductions if conditions worsen. Riders are urged

DeKalb County has activated its winter weather response under a declared State of Emergency as a significant ice storm moves into the area. County officials say the Emergency Operations Center is coordinating efforts across public safety, public works, utilities and state partners, with crews pre-treating roads and facilities, staging tree and debris teams, and ensuring generators and heating equipment are ready at critical locations. Police and fire departments report they are fully staffed and prepared, while GDOT and Georgia Power have crews in place to respond to hazardous roads and possible outages. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel, prepare for power outages, protect pipes and pets, and monitor official DeKalb County updates as dangerous conditions and extreme cold continue.

Canton and Cherokee County are dealing with icy conditions after the winter storm moved in overnight, bringing freezing rain and sleet. City officials say roads are mostly passable for now but slushy, with public works crews treating major roadways and trouble spots, and police monitoring conditions overnight. Temperatures may rise slightly today but are expected to drop quickly tonight, meaning slush will refreeze into ice by Monday morning. Residents are urged to stay off the roads if possible, avoid touching downed trees or limbs near power lines, and prepare for continued

Gaethje wins interim title in slugfest with Pimblett at UFC 324

LAS VEGAS -- Justin Gaethje was already considered one of the most entertaining fighters of all time, but that legend grew a little more Saturday night.

Nicknamed "The Highlight," Gaethje (27-5) won the UFC's interim lightweight championship for the second time at UFC 324 inside T-Mobile Arena, defeating Paddy Pimblett (23-4) by unanimous decision in an action-packed main event. Gaethje knocked Pimblett down multiple times in multiple rounds en route to official judges' scores of 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47.

The result sets up a 155-pound unification bout between Gaethje and undisputed champion Ilia Topuria, perhaps at the White House in June.

"That Scouser does not get knocked out," Gaethje said, referencing Pimblett's notorious claim that people from Liverpool are impossible to finish. "This is a crazy sport, an amazing life

Gaethje, 37, entered Saturday's fight as a +195 betting underdog on DraftKings Sportsbook and is now 9-2 in his UFC career as an underdog. He handed Pimblett, 31, his first UFC loss in the process; Pimblett was 7-0 in the UFC before Saturday.

Gaethje also won the interim UFC championship in 2020, in a decision win over Tony Ferguson. He went on to challenge Khabib Nurmagomedov in what would prove to be the final fight of Nurmagomedov's career at UFC 254 and lost via submission.

Although Gaethje defeated Pimblett convincingly on the scorecards, it was a competitive five-round fight with several swings in momentum. Gaethje's best work came when he put Pimblett's back to the fence. He knocked him down with a right uppercut

Omar Marmoush scored his first Premier League goal of the season to help Manchester City return to winning ways by easing past bottom side Wolves at Etihad Stadium.

Pep Guardiola's side had suffered a miserable start to 2026 by not winning any of their four league games, and the Spaniard decided to give star striker Erling Haaland and midfielder Phil Foden a rest by dropping them to the bench.

The duo came on in the second half by which time their team-mates had already made a positive impact to put City back on track in the top-flight.

Both sides set their stalls out early on, with visitors Wolves opting to sit back with a five-man defence, but City exerted their dominance by carving them open at will inside the first 10 minutes.

Debutant Marc Guehi almost made a dream start in a City shirt but his header at the back post was straight into the grasp of goalkeeper Jose Sa inside the first five minutes.

City grabbed the lead a minute later when Marmoush stabbed home Matheus Nunes' whipped cross, before Semenyo latched on to a ball over the top but his first-time strike was bundled away by Sa.

The hosts doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time to effectively seal the points when Bernardo Silva fizzed a pass into the feet of Semenyo, who converted a cool finish from the edge of the area - and he also rattled the crossbar in the second half.

Yerson Mosquera's flicked header clipped the crossbar for Wolves late on, but Rob Edwards' side have now won just

Seven reasons why the Traitors won

It all began on New Year’s Day with 22 strangers arriving at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands, via the traditional steam train and black Land Rover Defenders. It ended with two Traitors throwing the last of their rivals under a bus, before collapsing into a tearful cuddle.

In between came a red-cloaked secret Traitor, hidden relationships hinted at by a framed family tree, covert professions, surprise plot twists and shock showdowns. There was statement knitwear and squawking peacocks, all washed down with ginger shots, lamb shanks and lasagne. It added up to four weeks of addictive viewing which drew record ratings of 12 million and counting, while becoming the TV talking point of 2026 so far.

The fourth “civilian” series of The Traitors reached its killer climax with a nail-biting grand finale, where turret twosome Rachel Duffy and Stephen Libby emerged as victors to share the £95,750 prize pot. Let’s break down the seven pivotal factors which shaped their dramatic win and sealed the hapless Faithful’s defeat…

In the real world, thinking the best of people is a lovely quality. In The Traitors, it’s deadly. Sweet-natured, steadfast Jack Butler blindly put his trust in his pal Stephen, only realising his error when it was too late. “It’s so frustrating,” he said after being banished. “I’ve been totally played.”

Was he dazzled by the snappily dressed Scot’s jumpsuits, warm demeanour and affable charm? If so, Jack wasn’t the only one. While Rachel’s talent was strategic gameplay, Stephen’s was hiding in plain sight, making himself so popular that few could doubt him. Meanwhile, Jack was overly keen to forge friendships. He said James was his “best mate in here” and felt awful about voting for him. He fist-bumped Faraaz and swore allegiance. Jack was so Faithful, he suffered for it.

It was part of a pattern of the Faithful letting emotion cloud their judgement. Fiona Hughes lost the plot due to jealousy. Harriet Tyce got so righteously angry that she alienated her allies.  grew so close to people that she lost all perspective. Jade Scott admitted that persistent scrutiny caused her to “crack” and departed in tears. It all led to the Faithful playing with their hearts, not their heads.

With Stephen running interference, Rachel gave a masterclass in deception during the final. Even when she was on the ropes, Rachel kept a calm head, tackled suspicion head-on and worked those castle corridors like a skilled spin doctor. Both her high-powered job in strategic communications and that infamous “FBI training” proved invaluable preparation as she played off the Faithful against each other.

As the net closed, she slowly and subtly nudged the Faithfuls off the scent. Her late stroke of genius was to convince Faraaz that he’d got it wrong about her, regain his trust and engineer him to vote for Stephen in the endgame. At first, this looked like a betrayal but it was actually a risky piece of human chess. Knowing that Jack would vote for her, she successfully split the Faithful vote. Her and Stephen’s combined vote was enough to eliminate Faraaz, effectively guaranteeing a Traitor win. Ruthless Rach was always several steps ahead.

The Traitors finale review – unbelievably stressful and bloodthirsty … till the last second

with the growing realisation that the cracks in the format are starting to show.

One major culprit, as always, has been the mid-episode challenge; a slab of filler designed to kill any trace of intrigue, like a version of 12 Angry Men where the jurors get up halfway through to spend 20 minutes swanning around in a park. Nor did the new raft of tweaks amount to much, with the reveal of the Secret Traitor coming far too early, and the secret connections (Judy and Roxy, Ellie and Ross) fizzling out without resolution.

However, the biggest accusation to level at The Traitors is that it is a show designed to reward the dull. There have been some spectacular participants this year – James was baffling, Harriet was explosive, Fiona somehow managed to be both at once – but they all got banished the instant they demonstrated any tangible signs of personality. Instead, the final five contestants were two traitors and a handful of people who couldn’t have said more than 500 words between them all series. It didn’t look great.

After James was banished by chance in a cliffhanger from the previous episode, we were left with Jade (whose default characteristic was defensive), Faraaz (who was mute, then tantalisingly perceptive, then mute again), Jack (who suddenly made himself known three episodes ago, like a Star Trek redshirt) and the two remaining traitors.

They were Stephen, who was passive and fond of big collars, and Rachel. And, honestly, thank God for Rachel. She was, of course, the figure who managed to bend the show’s entire gravity field around her. This was the woman responsible for turning The Traitors into – if you’ll allow me to quote Logan Roy – a fight for a knife in the mud.

For better or worse, Rachel’s machinations meant that this year’s entire series was cast in her image. It, and she, was ruthless to a terrifying extent. Even in the final her plotting remained in overdrive, as she worked

Ex-Olympic snowboarder, FBI fugitive Ryan Wedding arrested

WASHINGTON -- Ryan Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder from Canada who was among the FBI's top fugitives and faces charges related to multinational drug trafficking and the killing of a federal witness, has been arrested in Mexico, top Justice Department officials said Friday.

Wedding, 44, is accused of running a drug trafficking operation, and officials say he orchestrated several killings to further the drug crimes. He was on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list, and authorities had offered a $15 million reward for information leading to his arrest and conviction.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI director Kash Patel confirmed Wedding's arrest in social media posts. Patel said Wedding was being transported to the U.S. after being apprehended Thursday night in Mexico, where U.S. authorities believe the former Olympian been hiding for more than a decade.

This is a huge day for a safer North America, and the world," Patel wrote on X, "and a message that those who break our laws and harm our citizens will be brought to justice."

Patel was expected to hold a news conference later Friday in California.

Patel held meetings in Mexico on Thursday and left Friday with two detainees, Mexico's security secretary Omar García Harfuch wrote on X. He said the two detainees were a Canadian citizen who turned himself in at the U.S. embassy, as well as someone else who was among the FBI's most-wanted and had been detained by Mexican authorities.

A member of Mexico's security cabinet, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, told The Associated Press that Wedding was the Canadian citizen who turned himself in.

Sinners" stars Jordan (as Smoke and Stack), Hailee Steinfeld (as Mary), Miles Caton (as Sammie), Jack O'Connell (as Remmick), Mosaku (as Annie), Jayme Lawson (as Pearline), Omar Benson Miller (as Cornbread) and Lindo (as Delta Slim).

Peter Dreimanis (Bert), Lola Kirke (Joan), Li Jun Li (Grace), Yao (Bo), Saul Williams (Jedidiah), David Maldonado (Hogwood), Helena Hu (Lisa), Andrene Ward-Hammond (Ruthie), Nathaniel Arcand (Chayton) and Emonie Ellison (Therise) play supporting roles.

Legendary blues guitarist Buddy Guy also appears in the film.

Ryan Coogler, who directed 2013's "Fruitvale Station," 2015's "Creed," 2018's "Black Panther," and 2022's "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," is the director of "Sinners." He also wrote the film -- serving as producer alongside his wife Zinzi Coogler and frequent collaborator Sev Ohanian -- and said it is a "love letter" to his late uncle, who died in 2015.

Coogler told "Good Morning America" in December 2025 that making the horror action movie was "a little nerve-wracking," in part because he felt he was "opening [himself] up to the audience completely for the first time."

4.7 magnitude earthquake shakes Wasatch Front

SALT LAKE CITY — People across the state, from Logan to Provo, likely felt the effects of an earthquake during the Thursday morning commute.

The epicenter of the 4.7-magnitude earthquake was about 25 miles south of Evanston, Wyoming, according to the United States Geological Survey.

People reported household items and furniture shaking, dogs barking and cats cowering.

"I was just sitting at my desk in my living room when all of a sudden I felt my house shaking and sat for a second, confused," said Madison Olsen, in West Bountiful. "Then I could see my computers and lamp start shaking. I literally stood up, getting ready to run to my kid if I had to, but thankfully it wasn't too long."

Ogden resident Sandra Droguett-Collio said she "felt the floor moving."

"I was so light," Droguett-Collio said.

Farmington resident Troy Schauerhamer said Thursday's earthquake is only the second he's experienced in Utah.

EU needs ‘greater clarity’ on Trump’s Greenland intentions after he backs down on tariffs, senior lawmaker tells CNBC

The EU needs “clarity” on Donald Trump’s intentions after he cancelled his planned levies against eight countries over their stance on Greenland, a senior lawmaker has told CNBC.

EU lawmakers have removed the threat of tariff countermeasures against the U.S. after the U.S. president backed down.

Bernd Lange, a member of the European Parliament and chair of EU-US trade relations on its committee on International trade, said the bloc still needs “greater clarity” on Trump’s intentions after he declared on Truth Social he had a “framework” of a deal between the White House and NATO late Wednesday. Trump later told CNBC he had “the concept of a deal.”

“First of all, nobody knows exactly what the details of this so-called solution or deal are. We have to look to the details,” Lange told CNBC by phone on Thursday morning.

“The decision about such a solution or deal should be taken by Denmark and the people in Greenland, not between two important men,” he said, referring to the discussions between Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Bucks injury report: Is Giannis playing tonight? Who is out vs. Thunder

The Milwaukee Bucks have a rare January home game when they face reigning NBA champions Oklahoma City Thunder on Jan. 21.

The Bucks (18-24) only have five games at Fiserv Forum this month, with the matchup with the Thunder (36-8) kicking off a three-game homestand.

Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo is not on the injury report and has played in 11 straight games heading into the matchup with the Thunder.

The Bucks announced a few hours before the game that center Myles Turner (ankle) and Kevin Porter Jr. (oblique) would sit out with injuries.

Before the game, Milwaukee head coach Doc Rivers said Porter "won't be back any time soon." Rivers added that he thinks Porter suffered the injury a few games ago. Rivers said Turner is day-to-day.

Fermin Lopez sparks Barcelona rally as Lamine Yamal serves ban

Barcelona overcame a scare to boost their hopes of automatic qualification for the Champions League last 16 with a hard-fought 4-2 win at Slavia Prague.

The Spanish champions conceded an early goal and were pegged back to 2-2 before the break on a freezing night in the Czech capital but recovered with second-half goals from Dani Olmo and Robert Lewandowski.

Fermín López scored both their goals in the first half after Vasil Kusej bundled Slavia into a surprise lead but the hosts levelled when Lewandowski turned the ball into his own net.

That was reward for a positive performance from Slavia but Barca, without the

suspended Lamine Yamal, ultimately proved too strong with Marcus Rashford making a big impact from the bench.

Slavia served an early warning when Tomás Chorý controlled a bouncing ball and smashed a half-volley narrowly over.

Barça took time to settle but Eric García signalled a more positive approach just before the half-hour mark as he forced Jindrich Stanek to tip over from distance.

The equaliser came in the 34th minute after a nice move as Raphinha found Frenkie de Jong on the edge of the box with a neat backheel. The Dutchman slipped in López and he drilled in from a tight angle, beating Stanek at his near post.

Luka Doncic records triple-double as Lakers rally past Nuggets

Luka Doncic bagged a 38-point triple-double as the Los Angeles Lakers staged a second-half rally to claim a 115-107 road victory over the Denver Nuggets in Colorado on Tuesday.

The Lakers looked to be in trouble after an explosive first half from Denver, who surged into a 71-57 lead at the break thanks to 26 points from Jamal Murray.

fort stymied Murray after half-time, and Doncic and LeBron James kept the points flowing as the Lakers fought back to claim an impressive win.

Doncic finished with 38 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists while James added 19 points, nine rebounds and eight assists as the Lakers outscored Denver 58-36 in the second half.

“They were playing great basketball, Murray playing at an All-Star level … they have a lot of great players,” Doncic said. “We just stayed together and fought this out.”

The Lakers improved to 26-16 with the victory, while third-placed Denver fell to 29-15.

Tears in my eyes' - Jesus enjoys 'dream night' in San Siro

The 28-year-old was making only his third start since returning in December from 11 months out with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Jesus has been at Arsenal for four seasons but feels like he has played only "one and a half or two" having endured a series of setbacks.

The Brazil forward has shown flashes of his quality following his comeback, scoring an excellent fourth goal in Arsenal's 4-1 thrashing of Aston Villa last month but, against Inter, he looked back to his best.

"It's a dream night," Jesus told Amazon Prime after the Gunners maintained their 100% record in this season's Champions League with a club-record seventh successive win in the competition.

"I always dreamed of being a footballer. I watched when I was a kid. I watched a lot of Serie A, so to be here in this stadium and score here is tears in my eyes because I always dreamed of being here.

"There is always a reason that things happen, whether it's good things or difficult things. I learned that during my 11 months out of the field.

"It is always difficult to play against Inter Milan. We came here last season and lost. Tonight we played better than them, we controlled them but they are a top team and they attack.

Man City stunned by Bodø/Glimnt as Rodri sees red

Manchester City slumped to one of the most humiliating upsets in Champions League history, losing to a 3-1 at tiny Norwegian club Bodø/Glimt on Tuesday.

The second-half sending-off of Rodri completed a miserable evening for big-spending City in Bodø, a fishing town with a population of around 55,000 and located north of the Arctic Circle -- more than 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) north of Oslo.

Kasper Høgh scored close-range goals in the 22nd and 24th minutes to set Bodø/Glimt -- a tournament debutant this season -- on their way to their first-ever win in the competition.

Jens Hauge sent the home fans wild inside the 8,000-capacity Aspmyra stadium by curling into the top corner in the 58th to make the score a scarcely believable 3-0.

City replied through Rayan Cherki in the 60th but hopes of a comeback were damaged by Rodri -- the Ballon d'Or winner in 2024 -- getting sent off in the 62nd minute for collecting a second yellow card in quick succession.

The loss piled on the misery for City after their weekend derby loss to Manchester United and left them facing a crunch clash against Galatasaray in their final league phase match next week.

City could make excuses about the climate, a string of absentees or the artificial surface but they were ultimately outplayed.

Curt Cignetti: Indiana's national title is 'paradigm shift'

MIAMI -- What began with an "irrational belief," Indiana center Pat Coogan said, ended with the Hoosiers' first football national championship on Monday, and perhaps, a new world order in the typically staid sport of college football.

Coach Curt Cignetti called Indiana's championship a "paradigm shift," one that opens the door to any program willing to invest to climb to the top of the sport, just as the Hoosiers did.

People can cling to an old way of thinking, categorizing teams as this or that or conferences as this or that," Cignetti said, "or they can adjust to the new world, the shift in the power dynamic in college football today."

Indiana became college football's first first-time national champion in 29 years with a 27-21 victory against Miami, but that hardly begins to capture just how unexpected this climb has been. Entering this season, Indiana had the most losses in the sport's history, and the Hoosiers won it all despite a roster that featured just eight blue-chip recruits and a host of contributors who'd followed Cignetti from James Madison two years earlier.

Indiana QB Fernando Mendoza's historic win ripples through hometown

MIAMI ― John Allen watched the college football national championship game intently, seeing a lot of himself in Indiana University’s star quarterback.

Not so much what Fernando Mendoza is able to do with the football, though Allen, a high school punter and kicker, sees some of that, too. But for nearly everything else.

Allen, 17, is a senior at Christopher Columbus High School, where Mendoza and his brother, Alberto, graduated from. Like Fernando Mendoza, he joined the Mas Family Program, Columbus’ honors track, and is a Miami Herald Silver Knight candidate. Mendoza graduated Columbus with a 5.2 grade point average, something Allen aspires to.

“It’s huge,” said Allen, who, a minority in this city, was rooting for the Hoosiers. “It makes younger kids want to work harder because they see it's possible. It's not just dreaming big: It's like you're literally watching it happen.”

The highly-anticipated showdown between Heisman-Trophy-winner Mendoza, and the squad’s no-nonsense coach Curt Cignetti on one side, and the once-dynastic University of Miami Hurricanes on the other, led by head coach Mario Cristobal and quarterback Carson Beck, delivered in a game that stayed close all the way to the final seconds.

Sources: Oscar Bobb gets green light to complete Man City transfer

Bobb has struggled for game time and form at Man City in the last 18 months, after he suffered a broken leg in 2024 and was restricted to only making four appearances all season.

Sources have told Football Insider that the Citizens could accept a permanent offer for Bobb this month, with Tottenham also named as a potential suitor of his services.

The Norway international has started just five Premier League games so far in this campaign, so a move away from the Etihad Stadium would need to provide him with increased game time ahead of the World Cup.

“He’s injured at the minute, so that might put a question mark over his possible departure in the January transfer window, but I don’t think it’s a serious injury.

“I think for Oscar Bobb himself, he probably needs to be playing regularly after a couple of injuries and seasons which have delayed his development. He’s a top player, there is no getting away from that.

“He’ll be going with Norway to the World Cup in the summer, so he’ll be keen to be playing regular first team football in the second half of season.“

College Football Playoff national championship game, Indiana vs. Miami: Live updates, score, highlights today

Can Indiana football complete one of the most amazing runs in college football history? The No. 1 Hoosiers (15-0) get their chance against Miami (13-2) in the College Football Playoff national championship game tonight, Jan. 19.

IU was a perennial also-ran before coach Curt Cignetti arrived in late 2023. The Hoosiers qualified for the CFP in 2024 and became a powerhouse this season behind Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza.

The Hurricanes were a controversial pick to the CFP field but have won three games for their title shot. Miami has won five national championships, most recently in 2001. Coach Mario Cristobal, a Miami native, played on title-winning Hurricanes teams. Quarterback Carson Beck ran in the winning touchdown in the closing seconds of their semifinal game against Ole Miss.

What's open and closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Government offices, the stock market and many schools are closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but most businesses are open.

National Parks are still open on MLK Day although they are no longer free this year after President Donald Trump made a change in the two days that will be free this year.

When in doubt, call ahead or look up more specific schedules online for stores in your neighborhood.

Here’s a rundown of what’s open and closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, 2026:

MLK Day is an official holiday honoring the civil rights leader's birthday and legacy, so federal and state government offices are closed. Courts and most schools are also closed.

U.S. stock markets and banks are closed Monday but will reopen on Tuesday.

Last month, the National Park Service announced it will no longer offer free admission to parks on King Day and Juneteenth, but instead on Flag Day and Trump’s birthday.

But California Gov. Gavin Newsom defied Trump and ordered more than 200 state parks to offer free admission on Monday.

Most stores and other businesses are open.

As Trump wars with King’s legacy, America must embrace it

Given the Trump administration’s war on the legacy of the civil rights movement, I was curious about what the White House will say about the holiday honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.

After all, President Trump has given a high-level job to Paul Ingrassia, who in 2024 used a racial slur in saying the King holiday should be “eviscerated” and “tossed into the seventh circle of Hell.” Trump’s team dropped MLK Day and Juneteenth from the holidays offering Americans free entry to our national parks.

Trump also complained recently that the civil rights movement led to white people being “very badly treated.” That was in line with Trump’s record of stoking racial resentment among white people who feel threatened by the nation’s increasing diversity. Vice President JD Vance follows the same playbook. He recently called diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives a “deliberate program of discrimination primarily against white men.”

It’s more than rhetoric. The Justice Department has banned disparate impact analysis, one of the most important tools for documenting racial discrimination. The department is abandoning its historic mission to investigate police brutality, such as the recent ICE killing of a protester in Minneapolis. The department’s civil rights division is carrying out Project 2025’s call to punish state and local governments, nonprofits, universities and businesses that have or support diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

Attacks on the legacy of the civil rights movement have included library purges and demands for censorship in college classrooms, national parks and monuments and museums. The Smithsonian Institution is being pressured to whitewash U.S. history by Trump administration officials, with help from white Christian nationalists.

Meanwhile, Stephen Miller is using his power to turn longstanding bigotries into policy, urging ever-more aggressive action against immigrant communities and their supporters. The consequences are deadly.

ICE and Border Patrol agents, emboldened by White House support for lawless behavior and a green light from the Supreme Court majority, engage in blatant racial profiling, targeting citizens and noncitizens alike.

Unai Emery rues missed opportunity after Aston Villa fail to close gap on Arsenal

Unai Emery conceded Aston Villa “lost a very good opportunity” after defeat against Everton, but he called for a sense of perspective after his side missed the chance to return to second in the Premier League.

Villa are seven points behind the leaders Arsenal and level on points with Manchester City, with all three teams dropping points in the title race over the weekend; City lost against Manchester United at Old Trafford, and Arsenal were held to a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest.

Emery alluded to the bigger picture after Thierno Barry’s goal secured victory for David Moyes’s side at Villa Park. Villa face Fenerbahce in the Europa League on Thursday, hoping to secure their place in the last 16 before a trip to Newcastle.

“We are doing a fantastic season,” Emery insisted. “When we played at Everton [in September], we drew and we were worse than now.

Rams survive Bears' clutch play to win in overtime

CHICAGO -- Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams survived an incredible throw by Caleb Williams that forced overtime, beating the Chicago Bears 20-17 on Sunday night to advance to the NFC Championship Game.

Harrison Mevis kicked a 42-yard field goal in OT after Kam Curl intercepted a deep pass by Williams on the Bears' first possession of the extra period. Stafford completed a 16-yard pass to Puka Nacua to get the Rams into field goal range and set up Mevis, known as the "Thiccer Kicker," for the kick. Mevis was mobbed by teammates while a crowd that was rocking earlier watched in near silence.

The Rams will visit NFC West rival Seattle next Sunday in their first trip to the conference championship game since the 2021 team won the Super Bowl. The Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers 41-6 on Saturday night and opened as 1.5-point favorites over the Rams in the NFC title game, per DraftKings odds.

Los Angeles led Chicago 17-10 in the final minute, and the Bears faced fourth-and-4 from the Rams' 14-yard line when Williams backpedaled to avoid the pass rush and heaved the ball to Cole Kmet for the tying touchdown with 18 seconds left. Although officially a 14-yard pass, the ball traveled 51.2 yards in the air, according to the NFL's Next Gen Stats.

Williams threw for two touchdowns but was intercepted three times for the Bears, who pulled off a series of improbable wins under first-year coach Ben Johnson but came up short this time.

Cairo Santos makes another field goal, keeping his place in Bears' history

The Chicago Bears are engaged in a tight battle at Soldier Field, but Cairo Santos has continued to write his name in the team’s record books.

Santos, who made all three field goals he attempted in last week’s win over the Green Bay Packers, was called upon to attempt a 48-yard field goal in the late stages of the second quarter against the Los Angeles Rams.

His 51-yard field goal last week against the Packers was the longest in Bears postseason history, and the 48-yarder on Sunday is now the third-longest, according to Pro Football Reference’s Stathead tool.

The second-longest field goal in Bears history was hit in the 2007 NFC Divisional Round by Robbie Gould, who banged through a 49-yard field goal to capture the 27-24 victory in overtime.

Unfortunately for the Bears, the Rams matched that field goal as the clock expired in the second quarter, tying things up at 10-10.

Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills lament 'missed opportunities'

DENVER -- The lectern in the bowels of Empower Field at Mile High Stadium stood empty for minutes.

The first arrival after every Buffalo Bills game is quarterback Josh Allen, quick to give his postgame news conference in full uniform as soon as the team breakdown in the locker room ends and things begin to settle. Even after the toughest and most emotional of losses.

This time, his arrival was not speedy. A public relations staff member came out two minutes prior to his arrival. And then eventually, about 16 minutes after the game came to a close, in walked Allen.

His face was visibly red as he looked down, sniffled and fidgeted, hitting his fingers against the wooden lectern. Tears were in his eyes and on his face. He was emotional throughout his news conference.

The reigning MVP was asked how hard it was to get to the AFC divisional round of the playoffs and have this outcome happen again.

"It's extremely difficult," Allen said with his voice choked up. "I feel like I, feel like I let, let my teammates down tonight."

His teammates, however, felt much differently.

"We know we wouldn't have a shot in hell to win a football game without him there," right tackle Spencer Brown said.

The Bills lost in the divisional round for the fourth time in five seasons, falling to the Denver Broncos in overtime 33-30. The loss continues the Bills' streak of not reaching the Super Bowl since losing four straight from 1990 to 1993. And it extends their record of the most wins in a seven-season span without a Super

Sunday could see double the snowfall in round 2 of weekend snow

After the city saw roughly an inch of snow to start the weekend, a second event could bring double the amount of snow on Sunday -- and the action has already started.

A significant change to Sunday's storm has now moved its trajectory westward, triggering weather advisories in the event we see truly plowable snow.

Although snow will be the star attraction on Sunday, it gets to take a break midday after the morning flurries are finished with their fun. The snow is expected to be off-and-on through the rest of the morning before a brief pause around lunchtime.

When the action picks back up in the afternoon -- likely around 3 p.m. -- be ready for more snow. Once it starts again, don't expect a break until late tonight.

How much snow are we expected to see once things wrap up? Those in the city, out on Long Island and central New Jersey may have anywhere from 1-3 inches to contend with. While areas more north and west could see up to 5 inches, potentially.

Once Sunday’s system clears the region, a rush of cold air will deliver our coldest temperatures of this winter so far.

By Tuesday and Wednesday morning, temperatures in New York City will bottom out in the mid to upper teens. Highs on Tuesday will languish in the 20s! And beyond that, for the balance of the week ahead, we’ll be feeling the chill. Temperatures will be below normal all week long.

DENVER -- Roughly an hour after the Denver Broncos had left the field awash in the emotions of one of the franchise's most dramatic playoff wins, coach Sean Payton stepped back into an interview room to confirm what was already swirling in the aftermath as a rumor.

Payton began with "not good news," and then said quarterback Bo Nix had fractured his right ankle three plays before Wil Lutz kicked a 23-yard field goal in overtime that gave the Broncos a 33-30 win over the Buffalo Bills in Empower Field at Mile High on Saturday.

Payton said Nix will have surgery to repair the fracture Tuesday in Birmingham, Alabama. It means Nix will miss whatever remains of the Broncos' postseason run and Jarrett Stidham will be the team's starter.

"[Nix] is a tough cookie,'' Payton said. "I said, 'Listen I believe you're the second quarterback in his second year to take his team to the [conference] championship game and the first is [Patrick] Mahomes.' ... We'll rise up for the next challenge."

On a first-and-10 from the Buffalo 36-yard line with 6 minutes, 4 seconds left in overtime, Nix was tackled for a loss of 2 yards on a designed run. He quickly jumped up after the tackle to get back in the huddle but did have a slight limp.

He threw a deep incompletion intended for wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. on the next play as Buffalo cornerback Tre'Davious White was flagged for pass interference. The ball was moved to the Bills' 8-yard line after the penalty, and Nix took the next snap and kneeled to stop the play.

On the kneel-down, his right ankle twisted awkwardly and Nix grimaced as he showed a pronounced limp as he moved back to the Broncos' sideline. Nix underwent X-rays following the game, and many of the Broncos' players had left the locker room by the time Payton announced Nix's injury, "so, in essence I'm telling them now,'' Payton said.

Nix finished Saturday's win 26-of-46 passing for 279 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. The victory was also the sixth time this season Nix has led a game-winning drive in the fourth quarter or overtime.

Seahawks dominate 49ers from jump, advance to NFC title game

SEATTLE -- Rashid Shaheed returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown, Kenneth Walker III rushed for three scores and the Seattle Seahawks advanced to the NFC Championship Game with a dominant 41-6 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night.

Sam Darnold threw a touchdown pass and got his first career playoff win in his first season with the Seahawks (15-3), who will host either the Chicago Bears or the Los Angeles Rams next Sunday with a trip to the Super Bowl at stake

Really proud to be a part of this team and this organization," Darnold said.

The Seahawks led 7-0 13 seconds into the game thanks to Shaheed, who fielded the opening kick and took it 95 yards to the end zone. It was the fourth kickoff return for a touchdown to open a playoff game since 2000 and the longest postseason kick return in franchise history.
